MP Al-Saloum meets Secretary-General of the Arab Economic Unity Council

Discussing ways of cooperation and developments in the work of the Arab Union for Trade Facilitation and Risk Management



His Excellency MP Ahmed Sabah Al-Saloum, Chairman of the Arab Federation for Trade Facilitation, Member of the Bahraini Parliament and Vice President of the Asian Parliament, met with His Excellency Ambassador Mohammadi Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary-General of the Economic Unity Council, at the Council's headquarters in the capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt, "Cairo". The two sides discussed ways of cooperation between the Council and the Federation in the future. His Excellency the Ambassador assumed his duties, succeeding His Excellency Ambassador Muhammad Al-Rabee, for a period of five years, starting from June 10, 2021.


During the meeting, MP Al-Saloum informed His Excellency Ambassador Al-Ni of the latest developments in the work of the "Arab Federation for Trade Facilitation and Risk Management" licensed under the umbrella of the Economic Unity Council. MP Al-Saloum said, "The Federation, which was recently announced, intends to hold a major regional conference in one of the Arab capitals to introduce the Federation's tasks and discuss the most important issues for which it was established with the relevant authorities. A meeting of the Federation's members will be held in the middle of this February in the Emirati city of Dubai to review the latest details in this regard."


He continued, "We are keen to build bridges of cooperation on a permanent basis with the Economic Unity Council and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States for the benefit of all parties, always keeping in mind communication with Arab ministries whose competencies are in line with the aims and objectives of the Union, which strives to develop and grow the volume of trade exchange between Arab countries and increase joint Arab investments by facilitating customs and unifying specifications and standards for Arab goods and products so that they are easy to export without obstacles, in addition to eliminating the black market that affects our economies."


For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Mohammadi Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary-General of the Economic Unity Council, welcomed the visit of Representative Al-Saloum to the Union's headquarters, praising the efforts of the Arab Union to facilitate trade and its recent activities and the efforts of the Union's President to introduce it to the

It is worth noting that His Excellency Ambassador Mohammadi Ahmed Al-Ni has held several important national and international positions, including his selection as an economic expert in an open competition for specialists in the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation, which is headquartered in the sisterly State of Kuwait. He also worked gradually in various departments and offices of the Ministry of Economy for a long period, which enabled him to gain a rich and accumulated experience. His selection today as Secretary-General of the Council is the second high-ranking state position after his work in the Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation in Kuwait. It is worth noting that the Council of Arab Economic Unity was established as a specialized Arab regional organization in 1964 pursuant to Article (3) of the Arab Economic Unity Agreement, with the aim of organizing and consolidating economic relations between Arab countries on foundations that suit the natural and historical ties existing between them and achieving the best conditions for the prosperity of their economies and the development of their wealth
